Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton, or abroad – Wilfried Zaha’s summer transfer options as Crystal Palace ace seems set to move

Crystal Palace fans will have to brace themselves this summer with Wilfried Zaha tired of life at Selhurst Park.

Roy Hodgson fired a warning to the Palace faithful on the final day of the 2019/20 Premier League season that Zaha, 27, would ‘like to move’.

The question is, where should he go? Plenty of clubs have been linked with the gifted Ivory Coast international but it’s crucial he joins a side that will cater to his playing style.

One person who made a great move from small to big club is John Barnes, the former England man joining Liverpool from Watford in 1987.

Speaking to Bonus Code Bets, Barnes issued some advice to the wantaway Palace star.

“I’ve said all along that you’ve got to find football that suits you, and Crystal Palace suits him because it allowed him to be the player he is,” Barnes said.

“If he goes to a club where he has to fit into a system, like Everton with Carlo Ancelotti, would he improve? Who knows? It’s not a question of whether he wants to leave Crystal Palace, it’s a question of him finding the football that suits him.

“He may feel that he wants to go to a so-called bigger club, but is that going to help his career in terms of playing the good football every week as he does at Crystal Palace?

“If he feels he needs a new challenge then so be it, but Crystal Palace suits the way he plays and allows him to be the star, whereas at a bigger club he may not be the star.”

talkSPORT.com has weighed up the options Zaha has during this transfer window.

Stay at Palace

Zaha will sigh at this thought but like Barnes said, he needs to find a club that will suit his playing style.

Hodgson admitted Zaha wasn’t getting enough help up front during the restart but there’s no doubting how key the player has been towards the club maintaining their Premier League status over the years.

Zaha’s move to Manchester United didn’t work out but for the rest of his career at Palace he’s been fantastic, suggesting he’s better as a big fish in a small pond.

Everton

However, Palace seem to be one of those smaller clubs who are happy just to exist in the Premier League. Everton are different in that regard as they clearly have the ambition to become a big club.

The Toffees clearly rate Zaha as they tried to sign him last summer and may be tempted to have another punt.

There’s clearly potential at Everton but it’s still hard to work out what direction they’re going in. Zaha could be the missing piece of the Goodison Park puzzle.

Arsenal

The Gunners were interested in Zaha last summer but they were way off Palace’s £80million valuation. Instead, they decided to shell out a club-record fee for Nicolas Pepe, something Zaha’s ex-teammate, Clinton Morrison, has questioned.

It’s understood Zaha supported Arsenal as a boy so he would be keen on a move and he’d be a fine asset for the Gunners.

Money’s the main object preventing this from happening, plus, Mikel Arteta must prioritise signing a defender if he can spend in the window.

Tottenham

The rumours have also thrown Spurs in the mix to sign Zaha.

There’s no doubting he’d be greatly accepted but would he suit a Jose Mourinho team?

Joining Spurs would obviously be a step up from Palace but he’d probably experience the same frustration of a lack of support up top with Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son likely to see more of the ball, as well as Steven Bergwijn already waiting in the wings.

Serie A

Perhaps Zaha will want to try a foreign league and he could follow in the footsteps of the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Ashley Young and Chris Smalling.

Inter Milan love to sign players from the Premier League and with Lautaro Martinez closing in on a move to Barcelona, there could be a space for Zaha to play alongside the likes of Romelu Lukaku.

Alternatively, Zaha could join an exciting Atalanta side, who are in the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions League.

LaLiga

Believe it or not, there are whispers that Barcelona are considering a bid for Zaha…

Joining Barca or their main rivals Real Madrid would be surprising but there are plenty of Spanish clubs who play attacking football.

If he were to move to the Camp Nou at least the kit would have a familiar feel – and it wouldn’t be bad playing alongside Lionel Messi either.

Bundesliga

Zaha could also follow in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho, who made his name at Borussia Dortmund over the last three years.

The German giants were linked with a move for Zaha in 2018/19, although those rumours appear to have gone quiet.

RB Leipzig could be another option for Zaha. They may have signed Hee-Chan Hwang from RB Salzburg but may want to get another replacement for Timo Werner, who’s now a Chelsea player.
