Chelsea fans are already in a euphoric mood following the news that Timo Werner has signed for the club – and RB Leipzig have just made their day even better.

The striker, who had also been on Liverpool’s radar, has scored 32 times all competitions for RB Leipzig this season to enhance his reputation as one of the best attacking prospects in Europe.

One of those strikes came against Chelsea’s fierce rivals Tottenham in the Champions League in March – and Leipzig are in no doubt that he will settle well in the Premier League as they couldn’t resist a cheeky jibe at the north London club on social media.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old has admitted he cannot wait to get going for the Blues, insisting the move was the ‘right step’ in his career.

He said: “I’m incredibly happy to be joining the Blues next season! It feels like the right step for me and I am delighted to become a part of Chelsea FC.

“Really looking forward to playing for such a fantastic and historic club!
“See you soon Chelsea fans.”

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: “We are very excited that Timo Werner has chosen to join Chelsea.

“He is a player who was coveted all over Europe and it is no surprise, he has that rare mix of being young and exciting and yet established and proven.

“We can’t wait to have Timo on board, but until then we wish him and RB Leipzig all the best for the rest of this season.”
