Cody Rhodes and Lance Archer battled for the right to be named the first-ever TNT champion at AEW Double or Nothing on Saturday night.
If that wasn’t a big deal in itself, then the addition of boxing legend Mike Tyson as the man to hand the belt over to the winner certainly up the stakes.
There had been rumours that WCW icon Sting would be the man to make an appearance and factor into the pay-per-view, but AEW surprised everyone by securing Iron Mike for the event.
Rhodes and Archer had built a heated-feud leading into this event. Archer debuted as a student of sorts to the legendary Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts and immediately made Rhodes a target.
In the weeks that followed, AEW announced there would be a tournament to decide the TNT champion and with both men either side of the brackets, they seemed destined to meet.
Archer has been running riot in AEW and destroying anyone in his path, so when he rag-dolled somebody during his entrance again, Iron Mike had a reaction that has become an instant meme:
A brutal back-and-froth match ensued between the pair before Jake ‘The Snake’ decided he was going to try and get involved in the dying embers.
As the WWE legend brought a snake down to the ring, he was met by a more than ready Tyson. Once the former undisputed heavyweight champion took his shirt off, Roberts wanted nothing to do with him:
Many might be disappointed that Tyson didn’t knock anybody out, but AEW made good use of his appearance in a funny, effective role.
Rhodes would go on to become the inaugural TNT champion with all outside interference put to the side and he enjoyed the privilege
of having Tyson raise his hand at the end of the bout.
