Juan Foyth to Barcelona? Tottenham defender’s agent casts doubt over future under Jose Mourinho but will talk to club first

Juan Foyth’s agent has suggested the Tottenham defender has no future under Jose Mourinho.

The 22-year-old has played just three times since Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Spurs manager last November.

His last appearance came in a 2-2 draw with Norwich on December 28, when he was hauled off at half-time for making a mistake which led to a goal.

Foyth’s representative, Claudio Curti, admits the club’s ‘project’ with his client has changed since Mourinho’s arrival.

When asked if the Argentina international has a future at Tottenham with Mourinho in charge, Curti told talkSPORT.com: “For what has happened in recent times, we don’t think so.

“But we still have a pending talk with Tottenham to clarify the future.

“We don’t judge the coach’s decisions and we don’t get involved in his job, but what’s clear is that the club’s project with Juan has changed.

“We have a pending chat with Tottenham and for sure the topic will come up.

“If he can’t have minutes in Tottenham we will have to look at the best options for him to develop and play anywhere else.

“Juan is grateful to Tottenham, but he needs to have more minutes to grow as a player and he also needs to hold his place in the national team. The only way to do that is to compete.

“Surely he is not happy, but he is a professional, and he will finish the season in the best way.”

Foyth joined Tottenham in an £8million deal from Argentine club Estudiantes in 2017.

He has been troubled with ankle and groin injuries this season, and finds himself behind Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez in the pecking order at Spurs.

Earlier this week, Foyth was linked with a shock summer move to Barcelona, however Curti played down those reports.

“For now, they are just rumours,” he said.

“I have no doubt that he can play in Barcelona, his characteristics are ideal. He still has to keep growing.

“We have been consulted by several teams for him and his situation at Tottenham.”

Last month, Foyth revealed he would be forced to leave Tottenham if his playing time did not improve.

He told TNT Sports: “You always want to play to feel like a player and feel good. It isn’t easy not to play either.

“But I don’t know, we have to wait now for the transfer window to open.

“If I am going to have opportunities here, I will be very comfortable. And if they won’t count on me, the best thing will be to find another club.

“I would like to stay in Europe, all leagues have a high level. My wish is to play at the highest level as long as I can. The main thing is to play.”
