Conor McGregor says he will ‘f***ing butcher’ Justin Gaethje following the American’s win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 249.
Gaethje won the interim lightweight title with a fifth-round knockout victory in Jacksonville, Florida last Saturday.
Khabib Nurmagomedov was set to defend his lightweight title against Ferguson at UFC 249, but had to pull out due to travel restrictions imposed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
And after Gaethje’s emphatic win, McGregor had an expletive-laden message for the 31-year-old.
He wrote on social media: “Justin, there is no danger in a man that hugs legs, we all know. Try and dance around what the real threat is here all you want.
I am going to f***ing butcher you. Your teeth. I’m going to put them on a f***ing necklace.
“Speak on my skills as a father? You are f***ing dead.”
The war of words between Gaethje and McGregor has been going on for the past year.
Last September Gaethje offered to take on McGregor in his comeback fight after calling him a ’s*** father’, but the Notorious instead faced Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in a winning effort at UFC 246 in January.
Gaethje said: “I’ll take the winner of Khabib and Tony [Ferguson] and if the little Irish f*** wants to come back I’m right here man. I’m the perfect guy to bring him back.
“I will never stray from the truth, that’s the truth. There’s nothing else to it. It had nothing to do with fighting, nothing to do with wanting to get a fight.
“He wants to write some b*******, facts are facts. You cannot represent yourself in the public eye like that and expect your child to respect what you do.
“You are an influence, you are a hero to your children, and you are a fool if you think they’re not going to follow in your footsteps.”
Gaethje’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, who also represents McGregor’s long-time rival Khabib, played down the Irishman’s chances of fighting either man any time soon.
Abdelaziz said. “He had a chance to fight Justin in January, and he picked [Cerrone] instead. He picked the easier fight.
“Now, the two kings of the division will fight. Maybe Conor can fight someone in the co-main event.”
