Calvin Kattar got the biggest win of his UFC career in the big fight he has clamoured for after landing a brutal elbow on Jeremy Stephens.
The ‘Boston Finisher’ lived up to his nickname as he recorded the first knockout at UFC 249 and pounced on the perennial featherweight contender with a brutal ground and pound.
Having missed weight on Friday, Stephens had to forfeit a percentage of his purse and was made yo pay on the night as well.
Fighting in front of an empty VyStars Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, the fight lived up to the pre-event billing as one to watch with an exhilarating first round.
The striking exchanges were fast and furious, but it was Kattar who found the breakthrough with a well-timed right elbow which dropped ‘Lil Heathen’.
Desperate to get the finish, Kattar then began to slice the UFC veteran up on the floor with brutal elbows before the referee stepped in.
As Kattar went to celebrate with his team, the devastating impact of his fists and elbows became clear as blood gushed from Stephens’ forehead.
Medics rushed in to tend to the fallen contender, who regained his consciousness and checked out his brutal laceration on the big screen.
As far Kattar, the disappointment of his defeat to Zabit Magomedsharipov last year has been expunged after such a sensational knockout.
