‘Liverpool are Premier League champions in everyone’s head’, says Arsene Wenger, who heaps huge praise on Jurgen Klopp

The outcome of this season’s Premier League hasn’t been decided yet but Arsene Wenger is in no doubt about who should be crowned champions.

Coronavirus has halted football and the sporting world and there’s been no action in England’s top flight since March 9.

The powers that be are hoping to resume the remainder of the season as part of the ‘Project Restart’ plans.

However, the possibility of ending the season is still an option on the table, with some clubs understood to be against the idea.

Other European leagues have had their seasons ended. In the Netherlands, the 2019/20 Eredivisie season has been declared null and void, meaning there are no champions or relegation from the Dutch top flight.

The French Ligue 1 season has also been called off but promotion, relegation and European qualifications have been decided. Paris Saint-Germain, who hold a 12-point lead at the top, have been crowned champions.

Give COVID-19 the red card

The quicker we work together to stop coronavirus spreading, the sooner we can get back into the pubs, the gyms and stadiums and arenas to see live sport again…

STAY AT HOME. Only leave for the following purposes:

  • to shop for basic essentials – only when you really need to
  • to do one form of exercise a day – such as a run, walk or cycle, alone or with other people you live with
  • for any medical need – for example, to visit a pharmacy or deliver essential supplies to a vulnerable person
  • to travel to and from work – but only where this is absolutely necessary

The government has also issued further detail on what we can do during lockdown.

Everyone should do what they can to stop coronavirus spreading.

And Wenger suggested a similar outcome to what’s been decided in his homeland is needed for the Premier League.

Liverpool are currently 25 points clear of second-placed Manchester City and a maximum of two wins away from winning a first ever Premier League crown.

While the Frenchman was also full of praise for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool players for what they’ve achieved so far in 2019/20.

He told Jim White on talkSPORT: “Jurgen has done extremely well because that club has waited 30 years for this title.

“And when you think they have such a massive difference [points gap] to the second team, Manchester City, as well – 25 points, it’s absolutely massive.

“No matter what England will decide, Liverpool are champions in everyone’s head, I think.”
