UFC 249 latest: Conor McGregor insists he ‘is in shape to fight NOW’ as he condemns rival Khabib in Twitter rant

Conor McGregor insists he is ready to fight NOW after Khabib Nurmagomedov officially ruled himself out of the main event of UFC 249 against Tony Ferguson.

But the Irishman offered little sympathy towards his bitter rival, instead insisting the Russian had ‘scurried out of the US to return home’.

The long-awaited lightweight title fight between two of the very best to ever compete in the 155lbs division was officially cancelled for the fifth time in five years when Khabib declared himself out of the bout via a statement on Wednesday night.

Although speculation about who, or even where, the main event of UFC 249 on April 18 will take place, the thought of ‘The Notorious’ going head-to-head with Ferguson would certainly appease fans in the meantime.

And the Irishman is refusing to rule himself out of a fight which he feels Khabib ran away from.

“I am in shape to fight right now! At the beginning of all this, I said to myself – I’m happy I don’t have an official fight booked,” he tweeted.

“If I did, I would have consumed all the incorrect data to support me taking part in the bout, and I would have followed through, competed. And won.

“The fact of this matter is, both Tony and Khabib where [sic] engaged in a game of chicken here towards the fight bell.

“With Khabib chickening out first. Making it 3-2 in pullouts in Tony’s favour.

“Khab scurried out of the US to return home, and amid the crisis. Very high risk. Congrats Tony.”
