Throughout his professional career, Anthony Joshua has been renowned for his positive conduct within the sport of boxing.
The unified heavyweight champion usually portrays a respectful demeanour, but famously snapped out of this on one morning in November 2017.
Following his somewhat underwhelming win over late replacement foe Carlos Takam 12 days earlier, AJ came in for some criticism.
Pressure was beginning to mount from fans for a unification fight to materialise against either WBO champion Joseph Parker or WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
Both of their camps had plenty to say about the division’s golden boy in the media and so he decided to hit back online.
Joshua first called for Parker to make him a fight offer and then did the same with Wilder.
He then replied to criticism from Fury, who’d told iFL TV: “After looking at the fight on the weekend with AJ and Takam, AJ struggled with, let’s face it, a glorified midget, no disrespect to midgets.
“But he was a glorified midget in the heavyweight division.
“He was a tough man and he was brave but he ain’t Tyson Fury he ain’t 6ft 9ins, 18 stone, can turn on a fifty pence coin.
“So how’s he going to beat this man if he struggles with midgets who just come forward with their hands up?”
Joshua responded with the famous tweet calling for Fury, who was close to 25 stone at the point, to return to boxing.
He said: “Get fit you fat f***.”
Fury then concluded the exchange with an Instagram video: “This is a message to the weightlifter. Big Anthony Joshua, the big tough man, who told me to ‘Get fit, fat f***.’
“It’s a new one because he usually doesn’t swear, tries not be himself. So he’s being himself which is good. To be honest with you, me old mate, I don’t need to get fit for somebody like you, at all.
“I could come to you now and punch your face right in for you. Even at 25 stone. So, I really don’t need to get fit for you.
“I’ve seen what you’re about, you just fought a midget the other day in a hard fight, the referee had to stop it in case you got caught or beat. Bum city, like I always said.
“Useless. No gas, no stamina, too many weights. You wanna practice on a bit more speed and less power, bum.”
