Just two months after rejecting the Barcelona job, Xavi now has a vision of how he would do things if he was in charge.
Xavi left Barca as a player in 2015 and has gone into management. He’s currently in charge of Qatari team Al Sadd.
He was reportedly offered the Barcelona manager’s job in January amid growing pressure on Ernesto Valverde but the club legend opted not to take it and Quique Setien was subsequently appointed.
But now Xavi has suggested he’s ‘ready’ to take over the reigns at the LaLiga giants, but warned he would not like a ‘toxic’ dressing room.
In an interview with La Vanguardia, the former midfielder said: “I am clear that I want to return to Barcelona, it gives me a lot of excitement.
“Now that I have seen myself coaching I think I can bring things to the players.
“But I made it clear to them that I saw myself in a project that started from zero and in which the decision-making was mine.”
“I would like to work with people I trust, with very valid people there is mutual loyalty.
“There can’t be anyone toxic around the dressing room.”
It appears Xavi has an idea of the type of players Barca should be signing too.
He believes the club should look to re-sign Neymar, who left to join Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee in 2017, as well as England forward Jadon Sancho, who is reportedly wanted by a number of Premier League clubs following his excellent displays for Borussia Dortmund.
Xavi added: “I would sign wingers, like Neymar – I don’t know if he would fit in due to the social issue, but football-wise I have no doubts it would be a spectacular signing.
“They just need wingers like Bayern [Munich] They don’t need many new players: maybe Jadon Sancho, Serge Gnabry…”
