Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he is ‘delighted’ for Erling Haaland despite striker’s Manchester United snub in January transfer window

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted he is ‘delighted’ that Erling Haaland is firing on all cylinders for Borussia Dortmund.

Solskjaer was desperate to sign his compatriot from Red Bull Salzburg last month, but the teenager snubbed a move to Old Trafford in favour of joining the German club.

And Red Devils fans are getting a taste of what they are missing after the striker continued his sensational goalscoring form with a superb double against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

Haaland – the son of former Manchester City and Leeds player Alf-Inge – now has a remarkable 39 goals in all competitions this season – including six hat-tricks – and 11 in seven since he joined Dortmund.

But Solskjaer has insisted he is happy that the striker is living up to the hype and delivering the goods for his new club.

“I normally never comment on opposition players, but I’m delighted for Erling,” Solskjaer said ahead of United’s Europa League clash against Club Brugge.

“He’s a top boy and a fantastic kid you want for the best for. He’s started fantastically for Dortmund. It’s brilliant for Norway to have a striker who can score like that.”

After Dortmund’s victory over PSG, Haaland said: “I am glad about the man of the match award, but feel like I still can do a lot better.

“I have to play better at this level, have to work hard to improve. The result is quite a dangerous one, as PSG has a very strong team and can still go through in the return leg.”
