Chris Benoit remains an ultimate sore spot for wrestling fans everywhere.
The former WWE star, known as Wolverine, shockingly killed his wife and son before taking his own life 13 years ago.
Wrestling was rocked when the details emerged and a Hall of Fame-worthy in-ring career has forever been stained and swept from the memory of WWE.
Chris’ other son, David, was elsewhere on that fateful day in 2007 and in recent years he has made it known that he would also like to get into wrestling.
He has turned up backstage at WWE live events in Canada and is still close with his dad’s former cohorts Chris Jericho and Dean Malenko.
Both of those men now wrestle for AEW and David says his ultimate goal is to wrestle for both AEW and NJPW.
But he doesn’t just want to have the same career as his dad, he wants to wrestle under the name Chris Benoit Jr and wear similar ring gear.
In a wide-ranging interview with Chris Van Vliet, he said: “I have his middle name. I can legally use it if I want to.
“Yeah [I would wrestle as Chris Benoit Jr]. I think that would be cool. I got the tights with the claw.”
It’s hard to imagine he’d ever be able to shed the dirt from that name now, but it’s nice to imagine he could make his own way and restore something to that name.
David goes on to claim he was banned by WWE for a while for going to an AEW show, but that he is now back on good terms with the company.
He also opened up on the tragedy itself: “That wasn’t him man. He would never do that. I know he wouldn’t. I think something went terribly wrong. The doctor said he had CTE [Chronic traumatic encephalopathy]. At the beginning, that somewhat gave me closure. He had CTE, so I don’t think that was him.”

“Big thank you to @tonyrkhan for making my Aunt and I feel so welcome after two long, emotional days of work. It’s wonderful to be welcomed into the #AEW family by you. It was an amazing show and we were happy to be there for it! Hope to see you again soon.” #AEWisJericho @chrisjerichofozzy @allelitewrestling @butisitfunny
“I thought it was a joke when I first found out. I was in Edmonton doing a fundraising thing with my sister. My mum got a call from RCMP telling her to come down (to Georgia). My mom told me.
“My grandfather (Chris’ father) went down (to Georgia). He was in control of it. My mum couldn’t do it because she had to take care of me and my sister. He was in control of the estate and the lawyers.
“I punched a cop. I punched him right in the chest. I thought it was a joke, I really did. I just didn’t believe it bro. I think the day it really hit me was at his funeral, that was a hard day. I laid him to rest.”
