Although Pulisic was one of the few players from Frank Lampard’s side who tried to create something, he gave the ball away a staggering 29 times throughout the encounter at Goodison Park.

And as the visitors chased a goal late on to try and get back in the game, the 20-year-old’s day went from bad to worse when even referee Craig Pawson gave him some flack.

The winger was called up for taking a throw-in which Pawson adjudged to have been illegal, and the official could not hide his amazement at Pulisic’s staggering lack of quality.

Television cameras focused on Pawson soon after the he made the foul throw decision, and he can quite clearly be seen saying ‘that’s the worst throw-in I’ve ever seen’.

Following the defeat on Merseyside, Lampard lamented the poor goals conceded by his side in the match.

“All the goals were sloppy,” said the Blues boss. “The first goal was something we were aware of – Richarlison in the air in the box – and then the other two were just really poor defending from us.

“We were looking like getting back in the game at 2-1 and we can’t give away a goal like the third, it was ridiculous.”
