David Beckham is hoping to make Luka Modric the first of many marquee signings for his new Inter Miami franchise ahead of their 2020 MLS debut.
The former England captain has apparently made the Real Madrid midfielder a primary target ahead of Inter Miami’s maiden season.
According to Diario AS, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner is the primary target.
“This is Luka Modric. One of the possible destinations would be a wonderful city called Miami,” said the director of OKDiario.
“He has been tempted by one of the owners of Inter Miami who wants to take him to play his last years of career.
“Real Madrid would let him go, next summer he will be 35-years-old.”
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has two years remaining on his current deal at the Bernabeu and is happy to see out his remaining days in the Spanish capital.
A move to the States would be considered appealing, but Modric will not be allowed to leave until the end of the season. Despite Zinedine Zidane’s desire to keep the Croatia captain, he has started just three games in LaLiga this season.
With Madrid not prepared to let Modric leave in the January transfer window, Inter Miami would not be able to register the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner in time for the start of the MLS season which begins in March.
Beckham wants to land a superstar with experience at the highest level for his new side, with Lionel Messi, Edinson Cavani, Luis Suarez and James Rodriguez also linked.
