Boxing news: Deontay Wilder says the one area he’s ‘way stronger’ than Anthony Joshua is his mindset

Deontay Wilder is gearing up for his second clash with Luis Ortiz on November 23 with the WBC heavyweight title once again at stake.

If Wilder can win and then beat Tyson Fury on February 22, he may have a direct route to the winner of Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr for virtually all the other belts in the heavyweight division.

Wilder is confident he will not suffer the same fate Joshua did earlier this year when he ate the first loss of his career to Ruiz and the titles that accompanied defeat.

Why? Primarily, it’s in the Bronze Bomber’s mindset.

“He already got some sweet potato pie the first time, and now he’s coming back for seconds,” said the unbeaten Wilder, of Ortiz. “I’m ready to fill his mouth with it. That being said, he’s got November 23 in Vegas coming. Me and Anthony Joshua have a different mindset.

“My mindset is very strong. It’s way stronger than him, and I spoke about this before. Joshua, he called upon it himself. He knew he was going to lose one day. He even spoke it to the universe.

“Even when it came time to happen, he gave his belts over to Ruiz. He literally transported his belts to this man. His energy gave the belts to the man. You could see it.

“For me, my mindset is different. I’m a totally different kind [of person], and a totally different beast. And I’m the best in the world, and I prove it each and every time I go inside the ring. I’m not worried about going in there and making mistakes and stuff. And if I do make any mistakes in the ring, rest assured, I will correct it as the fight goes on,” said Wilder.

Ortiz gave Wilder plenty of problems the first time around, but the WBC champion is looking to make a statement as 2020 looks wide open for the heavyweight division.

If he and Ruiz Jr overcome their next bouts, Wilder has said they could easily make a unification bout as they are represented by the same people. It’s on Joshua to get himself in the position for that fight.
