Luka Jovic has been axed from the Serbia squad as a ‘punishment’ for his recent actions, according to reports.
The Real Madrid striker is believed to have angered Serbia manager Ljubisa Tumbakovic after leaving the national team camp due to injury last month.
Jovic missed a 3-1 win over Luxembourg only to play for Real Madrid against Levante four days later.
Spanish outlet AS claim Tumbakovic ‘took note’ of Jovic’s actions and left him out of the Serbia squad for the current international break.
Serbia beat Paraguay 1-0 in a friendly on Thursday and face Lithuania in a Euro 2020 qualifier on Monday.
Tumbakovic’s men are third in Group B and trail Ukraine and Portugal.
Jovic’s tough start to the season has been compounded by his Serbia snub.
The 21-year-old joined Real Madrid in a £54million deal from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer, but is yet to score in seven appearances for his new club.
