Nicolas Pepe WILL be a success at Arsenal, because he shares the same crucial quality as Cristiano Ronaldo.
That’s according to Pepe’s former sorting director at Lille, Luis Campos, who sanctioned the Ivory Coast international’s move to the Emirates this summer.
The Gunners signed Pepe for a club-record £72million, but has struggled to make an impact so far in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old has two assists and one goal so far at this stage of his career, but Campos assured Arsenal fans Pepe has the same quality Ronaldo had which made him a Manchester United star.
“In my opinion one of the characteristics of a top, top player is that they like football,” Campos told Sky Sports.
“I remember working with Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe: they know everything about football. Mbappe knew all the results of the second division in France.
“After a game he watches the whole game again two times, to make himself more perfect.”
Despite the assurances from his former employer, Pepe himself took the time to apologise to Arsenal fans after his slow start.
“It has not been easy, I must tell the truth,’ Pepe revealed to French radio station RMC.
“My stats have not been good enough or my usual performances; it is not the same as Lille or the Liverpool game earlier in the season.
“My confidence must come back. I am not very worried. People may be worried about my statistics but I am not.
“I have to keep working as the level here is different [and] so is the language.
“It is a new league for me and I must adapt quickly. But it won’t take very long.”
