Transfer News: Thomas Muller attracts Premier League interest as he considers Bayern Munich exit

Thomas Muller has admitted he may be forced to leave Bayern Munich in the January transfer window after being reduced to a substitute role.

The 30-year-old has started the last five games on the bench for the Bundesliga champions, who have also recently parted company with Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Although the club legends were at far more advanced stages in their respective careers than Muller, coach Niko Kovac is clearly favouring playing a more youthful side.

Serge Gnabry grabbed a hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League last week, while Joshua Kimmich has emerged as a natural leader wherever he is deployed.

Muller, who won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, has become disillusioned with his role as a bit-part player and insists he is still ‘fit and hungry for success’.

“I’m absolutely not (satisfied with the situation)’, he told Kicker.

“I am just 30 years old, fit and hungry for success – with the club, but also personally. I am firmly convinced that I can help the team on the pitch.’

“A coach has to make difficult decisions before each game. However, the trend in the past five games does not make me happy.

“If the coaching team only sees me in the role of a substitute player in the future, I have to think about it. I’m just too ambitious for that.”

German newspaper Bild claimed on Wednesday that Muller was considering a move to the Premier League to reignite his career, having spent the entirety of it in Germany.

Manchester United tried to sign the striker for a fee of around £90million back in 2015, but Louis van Gaal was unable to get his man.

In 2017, Arsenal also tried to bring Muller to the Premier League and Jurgen Klopp even spoke to Bayern about the possibility of signing the 186-goal star.

Despite his peripheral status, Muller has still scored this season – netting against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
