The Europa league runners-up return to The Emirates on Thursday as they look to make it two wins from two.

Arsenal got over the heartbreak of last seasons final in Baku by running rampant in their first game of this years tournament when they beat Eintracht Frankfurt 0-3 in Germany.

Standard Liege also come into this game with three points on the board as they ran out 2-0 winners at home to Vitoria SC.

History between these two sides favours Arsenal, with the north London club winning all four of previous meetings, scoring 15 goals to Standard Liege’s 2.

Alexandre Lacazette is set to return to action this month after an ankle injury has had him sidelined since the draw against Tottenham, however, the Standard Liege game comes too soon for the fan favourite.

Emile Smith Rowe, who started the 3-0 win against Frankfurt, picked up a knock in the 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup and continues to be assessed before returning to full training and will not feature on Thursday.

The rest of Arsenal’s registered squad is fit and available for selection.

Unai Emery fielded a mixture of youngsters and players with European experience for what was on paper their hardest fixture of the group stages against Eintracht Frankfurt. One of the standout performers of that match was 18-year-old Bukayo Saka.

The academy product scored the gunners all important second goal between providing assists for Joe Willock’s opener as well as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s third on a busy night for the youngster.

He has since been rewarded with back-to-back Premier League starts where he provided the assist for Aubameyang’s equaliser at Old Trafford on Monday.

Unai Emery was full of praise for the youngster following his performance against Manchester United, claiming he constantly improving. “I think he’s working and improving, being mature and also playing matches in front of each player and each team as tonight against Manchester United.

“But his work is natural and he is improving. He is helping us now as an important player.

“We are going to work with him with him with calm, with patience, but if he deserves to take minutes and to take confidence for helping us with his performance, that is fantastic for us,” Emery added.

Kieran Tierney is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League following his summer move to North London.

The former Celtic star made his Arsenal debut against Nottingham Forest, and Emery highlighted the game against Standard Liege as a good opportunity for the player during his press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

Saying: “He still needs time and confidence, training and playing. Tomorrow is a good opportunity again, because he is ready to play tomorrow. He will take minutes, he will take confidence and will be able with us to show also his progress.”

Another long-term absentee is Hector Bellerin. The Spaniard made his return to the pitch to a standing ovation against Nottingham Forrest, and although he isn’t predicted to start, Emery could give him some minutes against Standard Liege.

When asked about Bellerin’s chances, Emery said: “Hector Bellerin is the same [as Tierney], but with a small difference. Because he was injured for more time and after a long time, nine months, I think he needed to first play 15 minutes with us last week, perfect, the first minutes.

“He played with the under-23s for taking confidence and he was doing actions on the pitch to feel good and to repeat them when the level is higher. For example, for tomorrow, we are thinking that it depends on the training that we are going to do now on how he is feeling. But if he is feeling well, then tomorrow, normally, he is going to play.
