Manchester United will revive their interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld in January, according to reports.
The Red Devils have made their worst ever Premier League start under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, despite completing the world record signing of Harry Maguire.
But the club are still lingering in tenth spot after the 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Monday night and a move for Alderweireld could be on the cards.
According to Italian outlet Tuttosport, United will try to bring the Belgium international to Old Trafford in January after failing to complete a deal in the summer.
The 30-year-old will be out of contract in the summer, with Spurs aware they could lose a key player for free. European sides can even begin pre-contract discussions with Alderweireld in January, perhaps making a deal with United more financially viable for Daniel Levy.
Spurs have tried to convince the former Atletico Madrid player to sign a new deal in north London, but talks have stalled and it seems his exit is now inevitable.
Former United boss Jose Mourinho identified the defence as the area in need of most reparations during his final transfer window in the Old Trafford hot seat, with Alderweireld reportedly a target in 2018.
Current manager Solskjaer also acknowledged the need to strengthen his backline, parting with £130million to sign Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well.
Eric Bailly is still suffering with a knee injury, Chris Smalling has joined Roma on loan, while Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have both been erratic.
