It was Balotelli’s first Serie A goal since netting for AC Milan in September 2015. But strikes from Dries Mertens and Kostas Manolas gave Napoli a hard-fought win over the newly-promoted side.

Balotelli made his debut in last week’s 2-1 loss to Serie A champions Juventus.

The former Liverpool striker joined Brescia on a free transfer after leaving Marseille earlier this summer.

Balotelli revealed his mum cried of happiness after finding out about his move to Brescia.

He said: “My mum cried initially when I told her that I might be going to Brescia – she was very happy.

“The president and I had already met in England many years ago. [My agent] Mino Raiola proposed the idea and it really wasn’t difficult for me to choose Brescia.

“I have zero fear. My objectives are to help this team grow as much as possible, to support my team-mates and have them support me.”

Brescia, who won promotion to Serie A last season, have won two of their opening six games in Italy’s top-flight.
