WWE’s plans for Stone Cold Steve Austin’s return to Raw at Madison Square Garden are worrying

Stone Cold Steve Austin has been featuring on a fair bit of WWE programming lately and he will do once more on RAW at Madison Square Garden in September.

The New York venue is hallowed turf to the WWE and is considered it’s home, but because of how expensive it is to run TV there, the company hasn’t done so for a decade.

With Austin increasingly accepting appearances on WWE TV, many fans have begun to speculate the Texas Rattlesnake could be tempted into one more match – especially with that Saudi Arabian money on the table.

However, Mike Johnson of PW Insider has stated that Austin is only being brought in to sell some more tickets and the company has no official plan or direction for him.

“A lot of people asked me why is Steve Austin added to RAW in The Garden. It’s quite simple. They have not sold out The Garden. They’re half sold out for RAW and a little bit less than half sold out for SmackDown based on the seating maps I’ve seen so they’re gonna add some additional attractions to try and bring people in.

“This will be Steve Austin’s first time back in Madison Square Garden which is the place where he first hit Vince McMahon with a Stunner all those years ago and of course, headlined pay-per-views there, including Summerslam ’98 against The Undertaker there and so on and so on and so on.

“So he is going to be there as a special attraction. I’m sure he’s not taking any bumps. He’s not going to be getting involved. He’s probably just there to do something.”

Johnson is one of the most reliable journalists in the wrestling industry, so it’s worth noting.

WWE would be wise to use Austin to help further another character, though. How about The Fiend?
