Manchester United may block Alexis Sanchez’s Inter Milan move due to Anthony Martial’s injury

Manchester United’s wantaway winger Alexis Sanchez’s proposed move to Inter Milan could be in doubt due to an injury suffered by Anthony Martial.

The Chile international is keen to finalise a season-long loan switch to the Serie A side this week following a disaster spell at Old Trafford.

However, the deal could be put on hold depending on the results of a scan taken on a thigh injury suffered by Martial in United’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Frenchman limped during the clash and subsequently underwent a scan on Monday to determine the seriousness of the problem.

Should his injury be worse than expected, Red Devil chiefs may be forced to call off the deal due to the need for reinforcement wingers, with Jesse Lingard, Daniel James and Marcus Rashford the only experienced wingers in the squad currently.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was seemingly relaxed about the severity of the problem suffered by Martial and teammate Luke Shaw.

Solskjaer said: “Hopefully they won’t be too bad and maybe we can have them training during the week.”

However, it has since emerged that Shaw’s hamstring injury suffered against Palace will now keep him sidelined for a month.

The full results of Martial’s scan are expected to be released on Tuesday and it will be a strong indication as to whether Sanchez can complete his move to the San Siro.

And Solskjaer has given the green light for Sanchez to leave as long as there is sufficient cover in his squad.

He said: “Alexis is a quality player. We don’t have loads of options.

“If there is an offer that’s good enough for the club and him maybe he will go, but if not then he’s still our player and he’s a quality player.”
