Anthony Yarde came up short in his first-ever bid for world title glory on Saturday night in Russia as Sergey Kovalev knocked him out in the 11th round.
Yarde, now 18-1, fought fearlessly through the entire fight and won many fans over with his gutsy display.
In the eighth round, Yarde came just about as close as you can possibly come to knocking a world champion out when he had Kovalev on the ropes.
Yarde emptied everything into that round and because of his exhaustion, he ultimately paid the price.
During his interview with BT Sport after the fight, Kovalev made his way over and had big praise for his challenger.
“You’re a great fighter, really. Hard, you know? You have a great future, believe me. You’re good.
“He is strong. He has good IQ, like good defence and he’s active, just not enough experience. I won by experience.
“100 percent he will be a champion.”
Kovalev almost certainly moves on to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez now while Yarde will go away and regroup. But, he will certainly be back and with some polish will hold a world title.
