However, because of Financial Fair Play regulations, Leeds sold the fan favourite and he is preparing to return to the Yorkshire club for the first time.

But his former boss has insisted Jansson was the club’s best player last season as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

“He deserves to be received in the right way. He was the best player of the team last year,” Bielsa said in his pre-match press conference.

“He had a high level season and I appreciate what he gave. I think the fans will be fair and recognise what he did.”

The 28-year-old featured 39 times for Leeds last season and was named in the Championship Team of the Season.

Leeds can go back to the top of the Championship with a win on Wednesday night after Sheffield Wednesday replaced them after their win over Luton.
