The yacht was about 11km from the coast with the Mallorca fire department controlling the rescue after an emergency call at around 1.30am on Monday.

Klitschko, as well his family and friends who were also on board, were evacuated to Port Adriano, with the 43-year-old saying: “Thanks to the Majorcan fire department and also to our crew on board.

“Everyone did their best to bring the situation under control and get us ashore as quickly as possible.”

He later posted a video on Twitter detailing the incident and sharing footage of the boat after the fire had been extinguished.

“Our trip Sunday night ended up in our boat igniting and family and friends being evacuated by coastguard and fire rescue team,” he wrote.

“No worries: we are all fine!”

The former world heavyweight champion later flew out of Majorca to Germany to attend the “A Heart for Children” festival.

Klitschko had 69 professional fights, winning 64 of them, and held the IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles longer than any other fighter in history,

His last fight was against Anthony Joshua at Wembley, an epic clash in front of 90,000 which saw the Brit win by an 11th round TKO.

Klitschko announced his retirement shortly after the loss, although he has recently been linked with a return to the ring.
