Chelsea have confirmed Ruben Loftus-Cheek sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon in their friendly against New England Revolution and have said the player will undergo surgery on Thursday evening.
The midfielder was withdrawn in the second half of the match at the Gillette Stadium with an ankle problem.
He left the stadium on crutches with his left foot in a protective boot amid fears he has suffered ligament damage.
And Chelsea have now confirmed the injury in a statement.
“Ruben Loftus-Cheek has seen a specialist today (Thursday) and will have surgery on his ruptured Achilles’ tendon this evening,” the statement read.
