Oleksandr Usyk next fight: Cruiserweight king will reportedly make heavyweight debut against Carlos Takam on May 18 in Chicago

Oleksandr Usyk has agreed terms to make his heavyweight debut against Carlos Takam, according to reports.

The Ukrainian, who won all four major titles at cruiserweight, is now moving up to take on a new challenge.

Fox Sports journalist Mike Coppinger reports that Usyk’s first bout in the new division will come against Takam on May 18 in Chicago.

Promoter Eddie Hearn previously mentioned the venue will be the Wintrust Arena.

Alexander Povetkin was initially discussed as the potential opponent in what would have been a scintillating affair, however the Russian’s team ultimately decided to pursue “other plans.”

As a result, Carlos Takam got the call and will be a worthy foe for Oleksandr Usyk’s heavyweight debut.

The French-Cameroonian has a record of 36-5-2 and has only lost to top opposition in recent times.

His most famous fight saw him controversially stopped by Anthony Joshua in October 2017.
