UFC London: Nathaniel Wood submits Jose Quinonez to send O2 Arena crazy

Nathaniel Wood received a hero’s welcome at the O2 Arena as he made his way to the octagon to face Jose Quinonez.

The Prospect lived up to the billing in the early stages and Quinonez’s opened leg kick put himself on the canvas momentarily.

Wood moved him with a nice jab early on and was able to reverse his Mexican opponent on the ground, clearly bosted by the London crowd.

Quinonez had an obvious height and reach advantage, but Wood still looked most comfortable standing on his feet and looking for strikes.

Wood dropped 28-year-old Quinonez with 90 seconds left in the round and then looked like he might lock in a front-facelock, only for his foe to escape.

25-year-old Wood – in his third UFC fight and on a seven-fight win streak – tagged Quinonez early in the second round and looked to close the distance at every opportunity.

After taking Quinonez down halfway through the second round, Wood locked in the rear-naked choke for the tapout victory.

It has to be said the O2 Arena was red-hot for south-London born Wood and he put on the performance of the night thus far.

Wood is going to have to change his nickname pretty damn soon…
