UFC London: Jorge Masvidal involved in a backstage altercation with Leon Edwards moments after knocking out Darren Till

Jorge Masvidal was involved in a backstage altercation with Leon Edwards following his stunning knockout win over Darren Till at UFC London.

The American was being interviewed by ESPN before his attention was diverted to British welterweight Edwards, who interrupted and told him to “shut up” for supposedly refusing to commit to a bout in July.

The actions of both were condemned by UFC president Dana White.

Masvidal broke away to confront Edwards saying “Come over here, say that to my face,” before he proceeded to deliver a five-punch combination as security stepped in to separate the pair.

It was a disappointing end to the evening for both men who were coming off the back of impressive performances at the sold out O2 Arena.

Edwards earned a decision win over Gunnar Nelson, while Masvidal delivered a stunning knockout on Till in the main event.

Till was the pre-fight favourite and had been backed to bounce back following his title loss to Tyron Woodley in September, but he suffered his second career loss at the hands of the American veteran.

UFC executive David Shaw announced Masvidal had won two bonuses, taking home an additional $100,000 for Performance of the Night and Fight of the Night.

White reacted with disgust to the brawl: “I can’t even believe that this happened.

“We [the UFC] need to do a much better job of making sure this s*** doesn’t happen at any of our events.”

Despite being the one seen to land the punches, Masvidal cited Edwards as the instigator.

“So I’m doing my interview, and this hooligan comes by saying some stuff,” Masvidal explained.

“[He says] ‘July, you’ll get your ass kicked in July’.

“And I go: ‘Maybe bro, cause whatever, maybe I want to kick your ass in April. Maybe I don’t want to wait till July. Maybe I don’t even want to fight you cause you’re not worth the training camp. I’ll fight you here, you’re a scrub’.

“So I tell him: ‘Just say it to my face like a man. You’re saying it walking away. We’re both men’.

“As I walk up to him, I’ve got my hands behind my back to signal I’m not coming here for problems. But he put his hands up like this [raises fists].

“It’s on video, and he walks towards me. Well, where I’m from, if you do that, you’re going to punch me in the face.

“That’s not going to happen. You’re a JV beta. You are what you are bro, you’re just a loser in life. You’re not going to get a hit off on me.

“So I did the three piece with the soda, and then just glided out of there. “Then some of his friends tried to sucker punch me… those guys did a big mistake.”
