Chris Eubank Jr has appointed his first full-time boxing trainer ahead of his fight with James DeGale on February 23.
The Brit previously insisted upon coaching himself for all of his fights, including high-profile defeats against Billy Joe Saunders and George Groves.
Now however, Eubank Jr has recruited Nate Vasquez from the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas to strategise with him in his career.
Ronnie Davies will remain in his role as an ‘overseer’ in the Brighton gym, with Vasquez becoming ‘main trainer.’
“I haven’t really had an official trainer,” Eubank Jr explained at the press conference to announce the bout, “Ronnie Davies has been with me by side my entire career, but he hasn’t trained me, he’s more of an ‘overseer.’
“I’ve kind of just done my thing, I’ve trained myself pretty much. For this fight that will be different.
“I’ve been working with a man named Nate Vasquez from Las Vegas. He’s been living with me.
“It’s good to have a solid guy that’s with me 24/7, working with me on specific things that I need to do. Instead of me going through the motions, getting fit and trying to beat guys using heart and determination.
“Now we have strategy involved. I think this is going to take me to the next level.”
