Adonis Stevenson’s wife has revealed that her husband has spoken for the first time since being hospitalised after his defeat to Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
The boxer was put into an induced coma and operated on after being KO’d by the Ukrainian on December 1.
Three weeks later, Stevenson came out of the coma, and his brother stated he had started to move his arms and legs, seeming to recognise family members.
Now, his wife Simone God says he has uttered his first few words since suffering the severe, traumatic brain injury.
“It gives us hope a lot,” she told Journal de Montreal.
‘Sisi’ previously posted on social media about how video messages of support from other boxers had brought a smile to Adonis’ face for the first time since the incident.
He is understood to be at the beginning of a road to recovery and will likely endure long-term implications of the injury.
