Manuel Pellegrini opted to start Andy Carroll up front for West Ham United in their clash against Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday evening.
New signing Samir Nasri was named on the bench for the clash at the London Stadium after signing for the Hammers on New Year’s Eve.
Carroll has not started a game for the Londoners in exactly a year when he struck twice against West Bromwich Albion in a 2-1 win.
For Nasri, the chance to play for a Premier League club again seemed to have gone after he was banned for a doping ban.
While on loan at Sevilla from Manchester City, the former France international was receiving an intravenous drip treatment at Los Angeles which earned him an 18-month backdated ban.
While there were naturally some sceptical fans, the majority of supporters seemed to be excited by the inclusion of the former Arsenal star.
