Manchester United want to bring Kalidou Koulibaly to Old Trafford

He said: “Mourinho wanted him, we rejected £95 million. But now it’s impossibile that he leaves Napoli.”

Even despite Mourinho’s departure, the Red Devils are reportedly still keen on bringing him to Old Trafford ahead of the 2018-19 season.

Gazetta dello Sport claim De Laurentiis will talk to potential suitors if Napoli receives an offer of around €120million (£108million), which would break the transfer record for a defender.

Mourinho also refused to deny rumours of United’s interest before he was sacked last month.

“I cannot answer your question,’ Mourinho said. “If is true, if is not true, I cannot answer to your question, maybe your question is the first one about the market and maybe the next press conference I have two more questions, and maybe the next press conference I have three more.

“The only thing I can tell you is Koulibaly is a Napoli player. And I don’t speak about players from other clubs.”
