The January transfer window is up and running, with Matt Jarvis signing for Walsall in one of the earliest deals done on New Year’s day.
The former West Ham winger has joined the League One club on loan for the rest of the season from Norwich City.
He will fill the gap left by winger Josh Ginnelly following his permanent move to Preston North End.
Jarvis, 32, has struggled with injury in recent seasons, but Walsall hope the former England international – who won his only cap in 2011 during his time at Wolves – will bring some extra quality to their ranks.
Saddlers boss Dean Keates told the club website: “It’s a massive coup.
“Matt is a fantastic player, someone who has Premier League quality and has done really well in the Championship.
“With Josh [Ginnelly] moving on, we identified this as a position to strengthen and Matt brings an immense amount of quality and experience.
“His quality will shine through in this division and we’re confident he will hit the ground running.
“He has fantastic ability and a very good end product. He also adds a little bit more experience to the squad having played in the top two divisions.”
Middlesbrough-born Jarvis started his career with Gillingham, but has mostly played in the top two tiers of English football with Wolves – where he impressed enough to earn an England call-up – West Ham and Norwich.
He joined the Canaries permanently from West Ham in 2016 after a successful loan spell, but has been restricted to just 21 appearances due to injury – missing two seasons with a knee problem.
Jarvis last featured for Norwich’s Under-23s in December. He joins Walsall with the club sitting 14th in the League One table.
