Plenty of incensed fans took to Twitter to accuse Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah of diving to win a penalty against Newcastle United.
The Reds extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to six points with a comfortable 4-0 win at Anfield on Boxing Day.
But while Dejan Lovren’s wonderfully struck half-volley earned plenty of plaudits, there was controversy later in the game.
Referee Graham Scott confidently pointed to the spot at the start of the second half when Paul Dummett appeared to pull Salah back.
Although there were few protestations from the away side, fans on Twitter felt somewhat aggrieved with the forward, who dusted himself off to score the resulting spot kick.
Cutting in from the right-hand side, the 26-year-old went to ground in the box after Dummett appeared to make contact with Salah’s arm.
