Manchester United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on the “terrific” Paul Pogba, claiming he is determined to get the best out of the Frenchman.
Former United player Solskjaer was given the top job after Jose Mourinho was sacked earlier this week, a manager Pogba had a fractious relationship with.
The difficult Mourinho-Pogba dynamic has been one of the numerous reasons behind United’s, who are sixth in the Premier League table, poor start to the 2018/19 season.
However, new boss Solskjaer, who coached Pogba as a youngster in his two-and-a-half-year spell in charge of the Red Devils’ reserve team (2008-10), spoke highly of the midfielder.
On Pogba, Solskjaer said: “He’s a World Cup winner, Paul is a terrific lad.
“When I had him as a kid he was always the happy-go-lucky lad and he’s not changed personality wise.
“He’s a better player, and of course he’s one I want to get the best out of.
“We have so many quality players that I want to get the best out of and he’s no different to anyone else.”
Pogba can be a match-winner in a free attacking role, ex-United player tells talkSPORT
Solskjaer’s first game in charge of United’s senior side sees them travel to Cardiff – a team the Norwegian managed in the second half of the 2013/14 season.
