Deontay Wilder’s co-manager Shelly Finkel reveals early talks are underway for Tyson Fury rematch and Anthony Joshua unification

Deontay Wilder’s co-manager Shelly Finkel has confirmed that early talks are underway for potential clashes with both Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in 2019.

The 32-year-old American heavyweight controversially drew with Fury on December 1 and both men have since called for a rematch to settle the score.

When asked about a second fight next year, Finkel told ThaBoxingVoice: “I believe that a rematch with Deontay can happen.

“Right now there are things going on to make a deal and that doesn’t need to be something I need to talk about publicly.”

Regarding possible locations, the manager refused to rule out a British stadium bout, declaring: “I don’t know if it’s in the US or the UK.”

Prior to the Tyson Fury fight, Deontay Wilder’s team were negotiating to try and secure an undisputed title clash with WBA, IBF and WBO king Anthony Joshua.

Talks ended in an acrimonious collapse between Shelly Finkel and Eddie Hearn, and the 74-year-old is cautious about heading down the same route once again.

“What first has to be understood is we don’t work for Eddie or for Joshua,” Wilder’s manager continued.

“If they wanna make a fight, let’s get together and do it jointly.

“You’ve gotta stop being a dictator, you’re not the only heavyweight.

“If you’re locked into the April 13 at Wembley and you’re offering us this and that, not interested.

“If you wanna sit down like people who want to make a fight and maximise income, divide it in the right way, then we’ll do it.”

However, despite their previous disagreements, Finkel concluded by stating that he does get on well with Hearn and the pair have restarted discussions over the potential super-fight.

“Eddie and I get along well enough, we’ve spoken on the phone in the last couple of weeks, it was very cordial.

“My phone is always open to him, we can talk, we can sit down, and if they really wanna make a fight it’ll happen.”
