Manchester United sacked Jose Mourinho as manager on Tuesday morning.
The club have announced they will appoint a caretaker boss until the end of the season while they take their time to bring in a permanent replacement for Mourinho.
The likes of Antonio Conte, Guus Hiddink and Laurent Blanc are being talked about as potential temporary appointments for the club.
But many United fans are urging Sir Alex Ferguson to step in and steady the ship for the rest of the 2018/19 season.
Ferguson was at Anfield to watch Mourinho’s final game as United boss – a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool – and is a director at the club.
The 76-year-old enjoyed staggering success in his 27 years at the helm before retiring in 2013, winning 38 trophies.
He had a serious health scare earlier this year, undergoing surgery for a brain haemorrhage, and it would be extremely unlikely to see the Scot back in the dugout at Old Trafford.
